On Wednesday April 15th, I had the pleasure of being 1 of 4 pre-dental undergraduate students who attended State Lobby Day with MUSC ASDA dental students at the South Carolina State House. The day started with a quick group photo on the State House steps (which the students allowed me to be included in; so nice of them!). Then, we headed inside to hear legislators speak to us about the current political issues affecting dental students, as well as the dental profession as a whole. It was incredibly interesting to listen to and learn about the politics that will greatly impact my future profession. Between listening to different legislators speak, we were able to go on a tour of the beautiful State House, as well as have lunch and be recognized by the House of Representatives. Throughout the day, the MUSC students were so friendly and answered many questions about the process of applying and their dental school experience. We, the pre-dental students, were also able to speak with the Dean of MUSC College of Dental Medicine, Dr. Sanders, as well as get a picture taken with him. I absolutely loved spending the day with the students and a few of the faculty members from MUSC. Every person I spoke to was so welcoming and kind. They made me feel as if I was experiencing a day in the life of a MUSC dental student. I want to again thank MUSC ASDA for giving me this wonderful opportunity to join them! My passion for dentistry was furthered, and my knowledge of my future career was expanded.
